This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Text printed on photo: "#738. California St." Text written under photo: "California Street looking east 1871." View looks east on California from just below Stockton Street. Old St. Mary's visible on the left, along with a horse-drawn cart. Numerous sailing ships and steamships can be seen tied up to wharves or at anchor in the bay. The rails of the North Beach and Mission Railroad occupy California Street as far west as Kearny. A car of the same company is heading north on Kearny.
