Description
Photograph of four young boys sitting in front of the restored adobe of Sheriff Don Tomas Sanchez in San Rafael Park, Glendale, ca.1940. The boys are seated on a squat cylindrical centerpiece that appears to be a well or fountain. In the background, a one-story rancher-style adobe is pictured with a well-landscaped lawn and facade. The property surrounding the adobe is raised slightly from the street while brick steps and a walkway lead to the front porch. Mountains are faintly visible in the background. The park was located on the back of the Verdugo Ranch west of Brand Boulevard, on Dorothy Drive. The adobe was built from 1872 to 1875, and Sanchez's wife was Dona Rafaela, a grandaughter of the grantee of Rancho San Rafael.
