Description
A two page chart describes the Japanese system of eras starting in 1912 with the Taisho era. The era changes when one emperor dies and the next one comes into power. The name of the era is decided by a committee. Each era lasts just as long as the emperor is alive. The most recent era, the Heisei era, began in 1989 and continues until the current emperor Akihito dies. Scrapbook page from Misao Okada’s album.
Misao Okada’s scrapbook contains photographs, ephemera, notes, and correspondence documenting her time at Amache and a visit and reunion over 50 years later. The scrapbook also includes materials relating to reparations and events observing Japanese American incarceration.
