Description
The Keg was a taven/bar located at 808 Willow Street, on the south side of Willow Street west of Bird Avenue, east of the train tracks. It was demolished in the early 1970s as part of widening the intersection at Willow and Bird Avenues. It was owned by Frank and Marie Fasano. According to the donor, Frank Fasano was born in San Jose around 1911 and served in World War II. He's listed in the 1945 directory as an employee at the Joshua Hendy Iron Works. According to accounts by the donor's brother (Joe Carter), the Fasano family started The Keg as a grocery store, but could not make it viable, so they changed the business to a tavern which was more profitable. According to city directories, the Fasanos moved to 1040 Bird Avenue around 1947 and opened the Willow & Bird Market at 808 Willow Street. At some point between 1956 and 1961, the market became The Keg.
