People line Hollywood Boulevard to watch the Lunar New Year parade. Numerous floats and marching bands participated on this date, among them, entry number 117: Councilman Eric Garcetti, riding in the back of a white convertible automobile and waving to the crowds. Mr. Garcetti was elected to the Los Angeles City Council in 2001 and was reelected in 2005. He became President of the City Council on January 1, 2006. USC cheerleaders and marching band can be seen in the background as they cross Highland Ave. The yellow Hollywood Wax Museum marquee is visible on the left. Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, starts at the beginning of spring. It occurs somewhere between January 30 and February 20, and it is China's biggest holiday. It is celebrated with firecrackers, dragon dances and lion dances. 2002 was the Year of the Horse. Photo dated: February 17, 2002.
