Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Photograph caption dated June 27, 1960 reads, "Gary Guiger, 14, of Sylmar, proudly shows his pet poodle, Jamis, junior high school diploma he earned despite suffering from mononucleosis. Rare disease prompted boy's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Guiger, of 14687 Cobalt St., to send Gary to famed Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for leg operations which will speed him on way, boy believes, to becoming aeronautical engineer."
