Description
Kashnor notes, "Shows California as an island, and the Western part of Australia with a small part of New Zealand. Valck succeeded Shenk as a publisher, and this plate is from Shenk's plate with Valck's address." Shirley points out that under Valck's signature is the erased signature of Joan Blaeu, indicating this plate was prepared in the last years of Joan Blaeu's life, in 1672-73, but dates this publication as ca. 1695. RLIN record echoes this date. Sun and Moon, Adam in Eden right, Adam & Eve postlapserium left. MS notes: 1750 (error) OV22, uco. Prime meridian: Tenerife. Relief: pictorial. Projection: Polar, dual hemisphere. Printing Process: Copper engraving. References: Shirley 459; Phillips 4262; Wagner 491. Verso Text: MS note: 286.
