Photograph article dated December 15, 1949 partially reads, "A year ago at this time Sandra Crawford Miles, 18, had everything to live for. It was almost Christmas. She was pretty and popular at North Hollywood High School where she was a leading candidate for presidency of the Girls' League. She caught a cold, developed a headache and suffered from nausea. On Christmas Day she got her 'present.' She was stricken with the horrible poliomyelitis."
