Photograph caption dated June 18, 1965 reads, "Kids Adopt Zot -- More than 500 children from Herrick Avenue Elementary School, 13350 Herrick Ave., Sylmar, and their teacher made a special trip this week to Griffith Park Zoo to adopt an anteater they christened "Zot." The pupils had donated the cash value of the animal to the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association, which gave them "adoption" privileges. From left, are George Ray, senior animal keeper; George McNeill, 11, student body president, and Sara McCaslin, 10, vice president. In rear, from left, are Jack Mosier, school principal, and George Hjelte, association director."
