Description
For 22 years, from 1927-1948, art students astonished the city with their annual fund raising productions which reportedly rivaled their counterparts in Vienna, Paris, and Chicago. Locally, Sacramentans became so enthralled with these events that as many as 5000 people would crowd in to the Memorial Auditorium to dance and watch the elaborate pageantry unfold. The Art Ball raised unprecedented sums for the Art Scholarship Fund. It united art, drama, music, and even athletic departments, bringing faculty, students, and community together in a close working relationship of mutual respect seldom achieved on any campus.
