Description
The historic bridge was opened in 1856 as the first suspension bridge west of the Mississippi River during Gold Rush days - across the Middle Fork of the Feather River at Bidwell's Bar. With the filling of Lake Oroville after the construction of Oroville Dam, the filling of Lake Oroville after the construction of Oroville Dam, the old bridge was disassembled, moved, and put back together at Bidwell Canyon on Lake Oroville. Dedicatory exercise were held in July 1977 to mark its removal to the new location.
Photograph shows suspension bridge, Bidwell Bar, erected and opened for travel in 1856. It was removed from this site in 1965 to be relocated on new site in state park, 4 miles from Oroville.
