Photograph caption dated April 15, 1954 reads, "Comedian Bob Hope quips with Frank B. Durkee, director of State Department of Public Works, before he snipped ribbon which opened four-lane dream highway to Valley residents. Hope officiated at ceremonies held today at Mulholland Bridge to open last link of Hollywood Freeway."
