Description
Republican mural, Clowney Street, Beechmount Avenue, West Belfast, 2004. One of the oldest surviving murals, it was first painted in 1981. 'The people arose in 69, they will do it again at any time'; 'Maggie Thatcher think again, don't let our brave men die in vain'. Reference to beginning of Troubles in 1969 and Hunger Strike 1981. Phoenix representing Irish Republican Movement; Emblems are those of the four ancient provinces of Ireland; from left Ulster, Connacht, Munster, Leinster.
