Presidential candidates, from left to right, Gustavo Anzueto Vielman of theAuthentic Nationalist Central, Alejandro Maldonado Aguirre of the National Renewal and Guatemalan Christian Democracy parties, Mario Sandoval Alarcón of the National Liberation Movement, and Lionel Sisniega Otero, Sandoval's running mate, sit at a press conference as Maldonado Aguirre speaks. Behind them there is a group of men standing. The three candidates and running mate held a press conference to claim voter fraud in the 1982 elections against Ángel Aníbal Guevara. A military coup prevented Guevara from assuming power and installed a three-man junta headed by General Efraín Ríos Montt.
