Photograph was edited for publication purposes The Olive View Sanitorium was founded in 1920 as a treatment facility for tuberculosis patients. Through the years, as the number of tuberculosis cases decreased, the facility was renamed the Olive View Hospital. Later, the hospital became affiliated with the UCLA Medical School, becoming the Olive View Medical Center, a teaching hospital with a new 888-bed facility dedicated in December of 1970. Unfortunately, the San Fernando earthquake completely damaged the building just weeks after its opening and the building was demolished in 1973. Olive View continued to serve patients at an interim facility in Van Nuys until the reopening of a brand new facility, at the original Sylmar site, was dedicated in 1987 becoming the Olive View - UCLA Medical Center. Photograph caption dated December 20, 1958 reads, "Santa Claus made an early visit to these youngsters at the children's ward of Olive View Sanatorium for tuberculosis patients in Sylmar. Helping him were members of Panorama City Rotary Club."
