Description
Microfilm of typed statements, letters, and other documents assembled by John D. Lee's grandchildren Edna L. Brimhall, Marion Lee, and Sarah Virginia Lee. The stated purpose of the manuscript is to "teach the truth about a much misrepresented affair [the Mountain Meadows Massacre], and to show that the family need not be ashamed of John D. Lee, but can be proud of him." It begins with a brief biography of Lee and some letters to and from Mormon Church officials regarding Lee's life and the teaching of the Mountain Meadows Massacre in school history books. The majority of the document consists of statements on Lee's character and perceptions of the events of Mountain Meadows made by his relatives and acquaintances, including Lehi Smithson, Samuel B. Curtis, Lorenzo Watson, Juliette Low, Walter J. Winsor, Samuel B. Tenney, Thomas Kimball, Frances Kimball, Alice S. Harris, John D. Young, B.W. Richardson, William N. Young, Lucinda Lee, John Amasa Lee, Evans Coleman, William Franklin Lee, Edith Robinson, Amorah Lee Smithson, and Benjamin Samuel Johnson. All inquiries about this item should be directed to the H.
