Photograph article dated December 9, 1960 partially reads, "A cavernous hole in the foothills above Encino is being enlarged and its walls fortified to provide the San Fernando Valley with a massive water reserve. Before the job is finished in January of 1962, more than three million cubic feet of dirt will have been shifted within the embankments of the Encino Reservoir to furnish storage acreage for 10,000-acre-feet of reserve water. The reservoir, located in the steep foothills at the south end of Encino avenue, is being enlarged on a $3.5 million contract let by the Los Angeles City Department of Water and Power." Pictured is the old 200' reservoir intake tower to be dynamited.; See image #00129028 for additional photo in this series.
