Description: The Horace Mann School was San Jose's first "big" school building. Built in 1868 at a cost of $22,000, it was heavily damaged in the 1906 earthquake and had to be demolished. The current Horace Mann school building is the third on the site.

Master images scanned at 300 dpi and scaled to 6000 pixels on the longest side. Bit depth: grayscale at 8-bit; color at 24-bit. Images compressed to 800 pixels across the long dimension and to JPEG format. Scanning outsourced to Luna Imaging Inc. as part of an LSTA Grant funded by the California State Library in 2003-2004. Scanning hardware is unknown.
