Former Redwood stand reduced by repeated fires and erosion to a chaparral.. Redwood has persisted because of its sprouting activity. Height of redwood at time of last fire is indicated by snags. Associated chaparral species are Castanopsis chrysophylla var. minor, Arctostaphylos tomentosa, Quercus wislizenii and Pickeringia montana. Conifers upper left are knobcone pines
