Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the damaged Rheims cathedral in France during World War I, ca.1914. The impressive façade of the cathedral is at center and consists of a large arch shaped doorway flanked by two massive square, flat-topped towers. A large circular stained glass window is at center. The stone walls of the church are decorated with statues and carvings. Part of the tower at right has been damaged and is missing. The base of the cathedral is surrounded by a low wooden fence, and several people are standing nearby, looking up at the building. Several early-model automobiles are visible as well.
