Bill Lear Jr. was successful in his own right as a fighter pilot, entrepreneur and business executive. Photograph dated August 28, 1947 shows from left to right, William (Bill) Lear Jr. of North Hollywood, seated in plane, stunt pilot Paul Mantz, kneeling and Tommy Mayson, standing. The trio were competitors at the Bendix Air Race that took place at the Van Nuys Metropolitan Airport.
