Photograph caption dated November 11, 1940 reads, "Art week to be observed from November 25 to December 1. Art Week will see 1,000 sales exhibits, being arranged throughout the nation, at which American Arts and Crafts will be made available at prices within the reach of the average person. WPA is servicing the preparations of the exhibits for the National Council of which Francis Henry Taylor, Director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City, is chairman. Photo shows (left to right) Francis Henry Taylor, chairman, National Council for Art Week and E. Holder Cahill, director, Work Projects Administration Art Program, as they select the poster for Art Week. Every State and the Territory of Hawaii will take part in the "Buy American Art" campaign. One hundred thousand works of art will be on display in the largest exhibition of its kind ever arranged."
