Description
Title supplied by cataloger.
View of the complete mosaic on the facade of the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium. One of the largest mosaics ever made, it depicts a beach scene of bathers, picnickers and horseshoe players.; The mosaic was assembled in 1937 by artists working under the direction of Stanton MacDonald-Wright and Albert Henry King from an original design by Henry Allen Nord. They cut and pieced it together in sections. Meant to be seen from miles away because of its Olympian proportions and design, the mosaic was originally placed at the gateway to historic Route 6 (Long Beach Boulevard).
