Photograph of Spring Street looking north from First Street, ca.1884. Eight horse-drawn carriages with riders can be seen driving the entire stretch of the street. Still more are parked without their horses or riders to either side. In the left foreground a brick two-story building with tall windows decorated by arched molding displays signs which read "1883 / Schnacher Block", "Decker Bros. Pianos / at / Day's Music Store", "Furniture and Carpets", "Day and Brown / Music and Stationary". Buildings to the right side of the photograph are predominantly three to four stories high and also brick. Other legible signs include: "[...]tists.", "[...]rch & Roal", "[...]ard. / [...]ods / [...]ns.", "Dry Goods", "Pacific Restaurant and Oyster Parlors", "[Peo]ple's Store", "Brunswick Billiard Hall", "Dobinso[n] Real Est[ate]", "H.J.[...] Wholesale Groc[...]", "Lord and Fisher [...]", and "Auction".
