This is a photograph of Fr. Murphy's compound at Shanchengzi. Visible are three identical buildings next to each other and fenced in with a gate. In the foreground there is farm land. Rev. Murphy was born in Springfield, MA. He entered Maryknoll in 1923 and was ordained in 1929 and assigned that year to Fushun. He was repatriated aboard the refugee ship Gripsholm in 1942 and returned to Manchuria in 1946. The communist presence forced him to return to the U.S. in 1947.
