Description
Title supplied by cataloger.
This building was originally used by Samson Tire and Rubber Company as an industrial office and manufacturing plant founded by Adolf Schleicher in 1918. Between the years 1929 and 1930, it was re-built as a walled Babylonian (or Assyrian) city; modeled after famous ziggurats and fortified walls of the ancient city of Khorsabad. Priest-Kings and other creatures adorn the walls. The Citadel Outlets, L.A.'s first factory outlet center, opened in November of 1990. A grand re-opening took place in 2005, at which time it was home to approximately 85 brand-name outlet stores. Architects: Morgan, Walls and Clements.
View of the redevelopment of the former Samson Tire and Rubber Company facility in Commerce. Seven months after this photograph was taken, the Babylonian revival style building became the Citadel Outlets. Photograph dated April 1990.
