Photograph caption dated June 12, 1959 reads, "Here are some of the more than 500 Compton College students who abandoned their classes to picket television-equipped classrooms and protest against 'automized education.' Some of their signs read, 'TV Eliminates Discussion,' 'TV Eliminates Student-Instructor Relationship,' and 'TV Doesn't Provide Education Needs.' Hanging from the rain gutter is a 'Mr. TV' dummy (center), strung up in effigy. Many other students remained in the television classrooms."
