A row of tents has been erected beneath the trees in St. James Park. Three soldiers gather in the foreground. This was the encampment of Company B of the local National Guard in the weeks following the 1906 earthquake. The company was mobilized to prevent looting and to enforce a curfew. After things calmed down, the encampment became a popular place for the local to visit every morning around 10:00 AM to observe the daily inspection and drill.
