Description
Paul R. Williams was the most influential African-American architect in Los Angeles history in a career that spanned six decades and included houses for millionaires, churches, housing projects, and landmark restaurants. Along with the 28th Street YMCA, the church was among one of the first nonresidential projects in the Black community. Located at 2412 Griffith Avenue, it was built in 1924.
Today's session of the annual conference of the National Association for Advancement of Colored People is pictured at the Second Baptist Church here. Dr. Rayford W. Logan, of Howard University, urged members to vote against the United States Senate candidates who will not support human rights laws. Photograph dated July 14, 1949.
