Description
Market Street Chinatown, towers of McKenzie Iron Foundry, San Jose Brewery and San Jose waterworks are visible in background. This image was featured in an article about Anthony Chabot in Volume 12, No. 1 of The Californians magazine, with the caption: "The twin water tanks, filled from an artesian well, was San Jose's first waterworks. They are shown here in a photo taken in 1866, when Chabot joined the company to help expand its facilities. Although new investors eventually pushed him aside, Chabot's Oakland pipeyard still sold the San Jose Water Company much of the pipe it used to link the Los Gatos intake with San Jose and Santa Clara."
