Description
The photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on December 30, 1966 states: "Interstate 80, winner of a good design award in the Governor's Design Award Program, is shown looking west toward Emigrant Gap in the 5,000 to 6,000-foot elevation of the Sierra. A narrow mountain ridge in the upper section of the Division of Highways photo accommodates the freeway, transcontinental communications cables and double railroad tracks tunneled beneath the highway. The award, one of 77 in 12 categories, was presented during ceremonies Wednesday in Pasadena."
