Description
Kashnor notes, "A rare and early map, showing all that was known of the North-West Coast of America. California is shown as a peninsula, Cape Mendocin is located at latitude 54, and the Anian country is in the position of Alaska. In the south Terra Austrailis is represented as an enormous continent stretching around the world from New Guinea to Java. It also locates New Francia, with a city called Canada." Circles in each corner have additional quotes from Cicero and Seneca. This is the third plate, first bound into Theatrum in 1592 per Shirley. Prime meridian: Ferro. Relief: pictorial.
