Alan Lightman discusses his book, “Reunion.” He begins by explaining the plot, which follows the protagonist Charles who is a middle-aged professor at a second tier liberal arts college who magically witnesses a replay of his senior year of college when he attends his thirtieth college reunion. Lightman discusses his research into ballet along with his own relationship with a ballerina that contributed to his construction of the character of Juliana the ballerina. He goes on to talk about another of his books, “Einstein’s’ Dreams” and his interests in the sciences. Later in the interview he discusses the catalyst for this book and how he wanted to explore the use of memory and its unreliability and how people discover who they are.
