Description
Mehrdad Amanat was born in Tehran, Iran. He immigrated to Los Angeles in 1971. Other members of his family joined him soon after in 1980 to escape religious persecution. The Amanat family practiced the Baha'i faith, which was outlawed following the Islamic Revolution of 1979. They had converted to Bahai from Judaism in generations past. Mehrdad attended University High School in West LA and then attended UCLA where he received a Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering, a Master's in Islamic Studies as well as a Doctorate's in History. The family settled in the Santa Monica area. Mehrdad married Sholeh Amanat and had a son, Azad.
