Description
Group portrait of men women and children with the youngest sitting along the front, most of the men wear military uniforms and they are standing in front of a large ornate building. The photograph is probably from the Sialkot cantonment that was established in 1849 [opened 1852] when the area was annexed by the British after the Second Anglo-Sikh War. The fort there was used as a refuge during the Sepoy Rebellion of 1857 and was the destination for Thomas Hunter (1827-1857) and his family when they were murdered by members of the uprising.
