Title supplied by cataloger. Theosophy is a doctrine of religious philosophy and metaphysics, which originated with Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. In 1875, Blavatsky, along with Henry Steel Olcott, William Quan Judge and a few others, founded the Theosophical Society in New York City. Theosophy teaches that what is known as human is actually a Spiritual Nature classically called the "Monad", or Higher Self, and that all individual beings, regardless of the kingdom in which they exist (human, animal, vegetable or mineral), are involved in an inextricably interconnected single life. The Theosophical Society was strongest in the 1920s, with around 7,000 members in the United States. Close-up view of Theosophy Hall's marquees, which are next to the main entrance (not visible in this photo). The brown marquee lists days and times of service in English, and the smaller black marquee gives basically the same information in Spanish. Theosophy Hall, an unassuming white 2-story building, is located on the corner of 33rd and Grand Ave.
