Description
Kathleen Sheldon Collection; On June 1, 1994, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landing at Normandy, the French Consulate in Los Angeles organized a reenactment of the historic battle on the beach in Santa Monica. The event was supported by boats, ships, and vintage fighter planes. Veterans, re-enactors, active duty soldiers and Marines staged the landing as a crowd of a few thousand watched from the sand.
