Photograph at a bicycle race on Western Avenue just north of Santa Monica Boulevard, September 1896. A crowd stands at the center of the photograph, many individuals in which hold their bicycles next to them. Horsedrawn carriages are visible a little further forward to either side of the unpaved road. The surrounding countryside seems undeveloped.
