Text written under photo: "South side of Market Street bet. 1st & 2nd Streets 1880." View of three-story building; A.S. Spence & Co., located at 537 Market Street in a portion of the Harpending Block. Many signs on front of building, which read "novelties, notions and toys," among other things. Four men standing in front with large wooden crates on sidewalk. Date may be off, as photo of same building dated 1880 at bottom of page 91 has a different business at this address.
