Description
This model shows "Old Bess," the beam engine erected in 1777 by James Watt at Boulton's factory in Soho, Birmingham. It pumped water from the bottom to the top of the wheel to give the rotary motion needed for driving the machinery. The Science Museum, London. Photographs: Concerning History of Science
