Description
View of the C.A. Larsen docked at the Los Angeles Harbor at Western Oil & Refining Co. Berth 128. Commander Richard E. Byrd was utilizing the whaling ship for his first exploration of Antarctica and the South Pole, via New Zealand. A large group of onlookers have gathered to witness the departure. This image was taken the day of Byrd's departure on October 10, 1928.
