Description
A figure explaining a torquetum, a medieval astronomy instrument that takes and converts measurements made in three sets of coordinates: horizon, equatorial, and ecliptic. The text in the figure reads "Figure 2.13. Here is the complete torquetum with the above portion picked out in blue. The instruments enabled the observer to read off not only declination and right ascension of stars, but also ecliptic co-ordinates." Perhaps the picture of the torquetum is an etching or engraving.
