Description
Image is a reproduction.; Title supplied by cataloger. Grace Krecsy Brown’s parents emigrated from Hungary to Canada in the late 1800s. They settled in the town of Kipling, Saskatchewan, and raised four children. Grace was born in 1922. In 1928, Grace and her family drove 13 days to Los Angeles so that her mother could be cured of what ailed her by evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson. It didn’t work; Grace’s mother died in 1929, and her surviving family returned to Canada. Grace’s father opened an auto shop that lost money in the Depression. In 1961, Grace and her husband George decided to move to Los Angeles. Crossing into the U.S., George was asked if he was immigrating with his Canadian-born wife. Canadians received top priority back then. George said yes, and the couple sailed through customs. They settled in the Valley Village area of L.A.
