Mary Pickford was a Canadian-born silent film actress, famously known as "America's sweetheart," co-founder of American Artists film studio, and one of the original founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.; Von KleinSmid was president of USC from 1921-1947 and was a Los Angeles Public Library Board Commissioner for fifteen years.
Photograph caption dated June 20, 1962 reads "Miss Pickford, honorary chairman of 'Meals for millions' fund, is greeted by maitre d' Joseph at Beverly Hills Hotel after attending the 'Hatari' premiere with Dr. von KleinSmid." The maitre d' is greeting Pickford and von KleinSmid.
