Photograph was edited for publication purposes This Chevrolet assembly plant opened in 1947 and produced the Chevrolet Corvair, Chevrolet Nova, Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet full-size models and the Pontiac Firebird. The plant was closed in 1992 after the production of Camaro and Firebird vehicles was moved to Sainte-The´re`se Assembly in Quebec. In 1998, the facility was razed and replaced with a large retail and industrial complex, known as The Plant. GM continues to operate a car-testing facility nearby. Photograph caption dated September 23, 1960 reads, "Aerial view shows ample parking in Panorama City shopping district. Broadway department store, framework on new Robinson's and site of new Montgomery Ward store and additional parking are indicated. The large plant in the background is the General Motors plant."
