Photograph caption dated July 27, 1962 partially reads "Three Valley football players joined with the Southland's best high school graduates to represent the South in the annual Shrine Football Classic August 5th, to benefit the Shriner's Hospital in Los Angeles. The massive figure in the foreground is 6-3, 220 pound Mike Hekkers from Birmingham High, who with Darrell Hoover of Poly High and John Cicuto of Notre Dame, are working out twice daily with coaches Jim Blewett of Manual Arts and Frank Serrao of Redlands at Whittier College."
