Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. Alice Nicole Voss Capello’s ancestors were from Canada (Basques originally from the Pyrenees), England, and Switzerland. Her parents were from Missouri. They first lived in Laguna Beach, CA, while her father served at Camp Pendleton. After the Marines, her parents lived in married student housing at UCLA. They remained in the area, and Alice was born there in 1954. Portrait of 5 year-old Alice Capello with her 31/2 year-old brother, Woody Chaves inside their Cheviot Hills home at 3020 Clubwood Drive. The photo was taken by a professional photographer who followed the kids all day.
