Description
Republican mural, Springhill Avenue/Springfield Road, Ballymurphy, West Belfast, 1989. Map of Ireland, with Sinn Féin symbol; 'Britain Ignores the Force of Argument Censored'; in 1988 the British Government banned British news organisations from broadcasting interviews with representatives of Republican and Loyalist groups, including the elected representatives of Sinn Féin. Mural has been paintbombed and graffitied with Loyalist slogans 'UVF' (Ulster Volunteer Force), 'PAF' (Protestant Action Force'. Painted over: figures for Sinn Féin electoral success - 1 MP, 56 local councillors, 40% Nationalist electorate.
