Description
This photograph was taken by Micky when he served as property man on "Wake Island" (1942), a film about the defense of Wake Island following the Pearl Harbor attack. It was filmed at the Salton Sea in Southern California. According to his memoir, Micky's photos were so convincing that the local store that he used to develop the film turned him in to the FBI. He would also later submit some of the photos to a national photo contest, winning first prize. Written on the reverse: "The camera contest editor 1100 Baltimore Life Bld g., Baltimore-1, MD. Herewith is my entry in your monthly contest. My submission of this entry is understood to imply acceptance of the above rules. Title: Hell on Wake. Camera: Speed Graphic.
