Description
DO NOT DUPLICATE. The cabin to the left and its occupants are on the porch. The covered ramp on the right led down to the path leading 75 yards to the "New" Muir Woods Inn, built in 1914 to replace the original Inn which burned down in 1913. The tracks were extended about 1200 yeards to this point, a short distance from the bottom of Redwood Canyon. At the other end of a wooden passenger platform which began at the ramp and extended aroun 75 feet back, ws a switch and the track split to a double track from there on for the remaining 150 yards to the end. THe gravity cars were stored there until they were towed back up to the sidetrack at Mesa Station or the Tavern at the Summit. Attached to the photo is a hand drawn map of the trail from the original Muir Woods Inn going down to the Rebuilt Muir Woods Inn built in 1914 and located towards the bottom of the trail near the Redwood Canyon. This photo was enlarged from a 4"X5" photo used by Ted Wurm for the cover of his "Western Railroader" May 1988 booklet. The photographer requested that it not be duplicated.
